A: The technology being used to enforce residential parking zones is the same technology that is used to enforce on-street parking in Calgary as well as all Calgary Parking Authority parking facilities, the ParkPlus System.

The ParkPlus photo enforcement vehicles will drive through a residential parking zone recording images of the vehicles parked. These observations are then uploaded onto a secure system which uses software to read the plates and compare it to information in the online RPP system. If the plate is validly registered as a resident or visitor, the observation is discarded and no further action is taken. If the software cannot find a match, a CPA staff member reviews the images and the system information to ensure no errors were made. No ticket is issued until it has been verified at least twice. If the observation indicates that a violation has occurred, a parking ticket will be issued and sent to the address of the registered owner of the vehicle.
